Xenical (orlistat) is the first in a new class of drugs for the treatment of obesity.

It targets the major cause of obesity – fat

This drug works by reducing fat absorption by the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, fat is not absorbed and therefore excreted. Xenical exerts its therapeutic activity in the stomach and small intestine and, consequently, is only minimally absorbed.
